[CALDWELL COUNTY, NC] – To celebrate the memory of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Caldwell County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) donated 19 books about Rev. Dr. King to Valmead Elementary School and provided volunteers to read some of the books to students on Friday, January 12, prior to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Rose Anna MacDonald, NAACP representative, collaborated with Valmead Elementary School Principal, Zach Morrow, and Media Specialist, Megan Simms, to select age-appropriate books on the life and achievements of Rev. Dr. King and to arrange for the volunteers to read to Valmead students. NAACP volunteers participating in the Valmead Project included Linda Cowart, Jennie Deal, Marcella Hines, Paul Hines, Elaine Setzer-Maxwell, and Pam Reid.
